Filtration - get the Technical Facts

Compressed air filtration is simply the removal of air borne particles from a moving pressurised air stream. To this end, millions of pounds have been ploughed into research on filtration media and as much again on the investigation of particle dynamics.

About Filterworld

filtersFilterworld high performance elements have evolved after years of research and testing. A comprehensive R & D program explored the most advanced adhesives, specialised filter papers and sophisticated drainage materials, resulting in a brand new range of coalescing filter & separator elements. Filterworld elements utilise high temperature chemical resistant adhesives, multi-layered filtration media and ultra-fast polyester drainage socks.

Air & Gas Filtration

Progressive filter media paraphrases the concept of Filterworld. Our coalescing elements are constructed so that the air/gas flows through a filtration bed of increasing efficiency. The primary layers are coarser than the final layers, resulting in high performances combined with exceptionally good dirt holding characteristics.

Filterworld coalescing elements have been exhaustively tested in the laboratory and in field trials. Various efficiencies are achieved by blending selected papers and materials together, resulting in our standard range of five filtration grades.

filter elementBeyond the standard range, we can offer an unlimited permutation of other grades, thereby providing efficiencies and performances, which can be tailored to meet a specific need.

Standard filter element end caps are either aluminium or stainless steel. The aluminium caps are anodised to prevent furring, resulting in a pleasing 'satin type' finish.

In practical terms this means that a 'spent' element can be easily removed from its housing. Untreated aluminium end caps can oxidise to create a white fur and in the worst cases these elements become a permanent fixture to their housings.

By using high temperature adhesives throughout the whole coalescing element product range, all standard Filterworld elements can be used immediately after a heat reactivated desiccant air dryer. This avoids a customer having to carry different stocks and avoids any potential mistakes, due to fitting an element which cannot operate at elevated temperatures. Imagine the mess if the adhesive failed, or a plastic end cap melted.

Vacuum Pump Mist Eliminators

air - oil separationModern oil-lubricated vacuum pumps use the very latest technology to produce air. They also need the best available technology for consistent air-oil separation, substantially reducing the release of oil mist to atmosphere.

Modern environmental standards, mean that simply pumping oil laden air into the atmosphere is no longer acceptable. Our 1 micron multi-layer separation media was chosen to cope not just with the quantity of oil mist, but also the heat and general operating conditions found inside today's modern vacuum pumps. The oil mist is coalesced into a liquid, which is quickly and efficiently drained to prevent it from becoming re-entrained in the exhaust air stream.

The American ACGIH, and British EH40 occupational exposure standards require that the level of oil mist in a plant room is less than 5 mg per cu.m based upon an 8-hour TWA reference period. Poor mist eliminators produce high levels of visible 'smoke' that will not only pollute the atmosphere, but may also damage health.

Air-oil separator elements for sliding vane compressors

rotary vane compressorRotary vane compressors use oil for lubrication and cooling purposes. Very necessary for the pump unit, but a potential nuisance if your process does not appreciate oily compressed air.

Filterworld separator elements reduce the oil content of the compressed air to levels that most users find acceptable. Obviously they do not eliminate oil carryover completely, additional filtration would be required to do this. However they do reduce oil carryover down to 2 - 5 mg per cu.m when measured at atmospheric temperatures and pressures. High efficiency separation also means less topping up, with the additional cost savings in lubricants. If the oil carryover is reduced, you buy less oil each week.
